QUALCOMM Incorporated, a leader in providing wireless data solutions, has announced that Case New Holland Inc. (CNH), one of the world’s largest construction equipment manufacturers, has exclusively endorsed QUALCOMM’s GlobalTRACS® equipment management system for use on CNH construction equipment.

“Endorsing QUALCOMM’s GlobalTRACS system for use on our excavators, crawlerdozers, wheel loaders, loader backhoes, and other state-of-the-art machines makes a definitive statement that leaders in two separate industries — wireless communications and construction equipment manufacturing — can come together to offer the customer an overall, enhanced product that stands to make their business inherently more profitable,” said Robin Killian, vice president, Case Construction Equipment. “After reviewing a number of wireless management systems, we found QUALCOMM’s GlobalTRACS to be superior. CB To Develop 6-Liter Engines

Friday, February 29th, 2008

JCB, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of construction equipment, confirmed that it plans to develop its own 4- and 6-liter diesel engines.

Using JCB’s construction equipment expertise, the engine is being developed in close partnership with engine specialists Ricardo, AVL, Cosworth, and Krause. The JCB engine is being specifically designed for the off-highway equipment sector.Anthony Bamford, JCB chairman and managing director, said: “The JCB engine will give higher performance than existing engines and also comply with future worldwide emission requirements. The engine, when manufactured, will enable JCB to supply the best possible power train package for its customers.”

The JCB Engine Development Team is located at an existing JCB factory in Staffordshire.

For the foreseeable future, JCB will continue to source 1-, 1.5- and 2-liter engines from Perkins.

JCB Inc. is the North American subsidiary of JC Bamford Excavators Ltd., one of the top five construction equipment manufacturers in the world. JCB markets a wide range of construction equipment in North America, including backhoe loaders, wheel loader/tool carriers, Loadall telescopic handlers, rough-terrain forklifts, Robot skid-steer loaders, hydraulic tracked excavators, and articulated dump trucks.

In January 2000, JCB’s first “Made in the USA” backhoe loader was built at the company’s new 500,000-square-foot North American headquarters and manufacturing facility in Savannah, Georgia.

Compact Construction Equipment

Most contractors naturally associate the Caterpillar brand name with heavy-duty construction equipment.

From big track-type tractors to wheel loaders and excavators, Cat has set an industry standard in construction equipment for nearly 80 years.

However, in 1998, the first steps were taken at Caterpillar to expand on the company’s brand image with the introduction of Cat’s first line of compact construction equipment (CCE).

Starting with the compact wheel loader and mini hydraulic excavator, and followed (in 1999) by the skid-steer loader, Cat leveraged the purchasing power and engineering expertise that had come from decades of producing heavy construction equipment.

The result was a CCE line-up that features large equipment components such as radial piston motors, XT hoses and hydraulic cooling fans.

In 2001, Cat added the multi-terrain loader (MTL), which has grown in popularity due in large part to a tracked undercarriage that minimizes ground pressure and is designed for use in adverse working conditions. With the addition of the MTL, the Cat CCE line-up has grown to 26 machine models and more than 60 attachments, all built and backed by Caterpillar.

When Cat initially entered the compact construction equipment, it was with the awareness that there was potential for this line of machines, but also knowing this was an area abundant with competition.

Motor combines efficiency and economy

Friday, February 29th, 2008

has released Eaton’s Jining Hydraulic Motors, a range of low speed, high torque hydraulic motors primarily suited for use in agricultural and construction equipment.

The Jining range includes the JH Series, JS Series and 2K Series motors. All Gerotor/Geroler motors in the range are metric builds, featuring either spool or disc valves.

Priced at the lower end of the market, the Jining range has the following features: compact design; high pressure capacity shaft seal; direction of shaft rotation and speed can be controlled; combination of efficiency and economy in medium duty applications.

Jining is targeting the price sensitive end of the hydraulic motor market and complements, Berendsen’s existing range of Char-Lynn motors.

Jining is a wholly owned business of Eaton Hydraulics that has been in operation since 1994, producing hydraulic motors for the South East Asian Market. Berendsen Fluid Power is Australia’s largest independently owned hydraulics company.

Semco reaches key milestone

Friday, February 29th, 2008

THIS January, Semco Equipment Sales, formerly Case Equipment Sales, passed the $500 million milestone in retail sales since commencing business in 1994. This includes the retail sale of over 7,000 machines, such as the range of class leading Takeuchi mini excavators and rubber tracked loaders, Fiori materials handling equipment and Terex Compact (back-hoe loaders and road rollers).

The directors altered the company’s direction in 2007 by divesting dealer-only sourced construction equipment brands in favour of a direct importation, distribution and retail model. Semco utilises its own NSW-based retail stores located in Sydney, Newcastle and Queanbeyan, plus a national retail dealer network, which ensures a high level of direct customer contact.

“We see this new direction as the best way to secure the company’s future and to better control our destiny,” says Satch Santilli, Semco’s general sales director. “Our objective has always been to give our customers, the best possible products at the best possible prices. The strong relationships we have formed with our suppliers on a direct basis, ensures this will be possible for many years to come.”

According to Santilli, Semco has enjoyed successive profitable quarters since opening in 1994. Peter Esse has played a key role in Semco’s growth and has announced that he will retire as a fulltime employee at the end of March 2008. Esse will however remain as managing director, in addition to being an active board member and shareholder.

“Semco has built a strong and diverse business with brands such as Takeuchi, Terex, Fiori, Case IH (Ag), New Holland (Ag), and Hardi Sprays, with other well known brands that will be announced in the near future,” explains Santilli.

“These brands, plus our growth into low hour imported quality brand name used equipment, and the continued support of Case construction equipment parts and service markets, will ensure that our sales continue to grow,” says Santilli. “Diversity into the construction and agricultural equipment markets means that we are still involved in affiliated industries, whilst having the ability to smooth-out the peaks and troughs of what can be a very demanding industry.”
