R&M Materials Handling to offer HoistMonitor with RX and QX Quick Delivery option
R&M Materials Handling has announced the HoistMonitor to its option list of RX and QX Quick Delivery Program offering from 1 December, 2009.
According to R&M, the HoistMonitor Select supervises and records key data which allows for more efficient planning and scheduling of predictive maintenance, inspections and repairs.
The collected data is said to be able to be accessed from the HoistMonitor itself located in the hoist electrical panel or from a key pad display in the pendant station with HoistMonitor Plus.
The company says predictive maintenance is a reality for efficient operations on the shop floor, as planning hoist repairs and inspections can decrease downtime while increasing performance.

Associated Terminals in the US orders its third Gottwald Floating Crane
GOTTWALD Port Technology says US based Associated Terminals (AT) has recently ordered a Generation 5, G HPK 6400 B Floating Crane.
According to Gottwald, the ordered crane is a variant of Model 6, derived from Mobile Harbour Cranes. The new crane scheduled to enter service February 2010, will be used for transhipping a variety of cargo including bulk materials and general cargo from large vessels to smaller barges.
Gottwald says the G HPK 6400 B is designed as 4-rope grab cranes for heavy-duty bulk handling with a grab capacity on the ropes of 50t up to a 31m radius. The new crane can be used alongside ships of all sizes andare designed for handling rates of up to 1,000tph.
The Associated Terminals recent order is said to be the third Floating Cranes it has ordered to date, making the new crane the most powerful crane in it fleet and among the most powerful on the Mississippi River.
The manufacturer says the new crane will join another of the same model, which has been operating since January 2009 and an HPK 330 EG, one of its Generation 4s, operating since 2006.
Gottwald says the new order brings the total number of Floating Cranes sold since their launch in 2004 to 16. And of these, nine are used on the lower Mississippi.

Rockwell Automation expands range of tough industrial Ethernet components
ROCKWELL Automation has released an expanded range of industrial-grade Ethernet physical media components.
According to Rockwell Automation, the Ethernet component range is engineered for high performance in harsh industrial environments.
Rockwell Automation says the Ethernet cable family has been engineered to preserve signal balance and integrity, while delivering optimised noise-immunity and return-loss performance.
The range includes four- and two-pair cable varieties with RJ45 and/or M12 connectors, spools of cable, and a variety of accessories.
Rockwell Automation claims its Ethernet components are simple to install and more robust than standard off-the-shelf variants, providing secure, flexible and reliable industrial Ethernet networking.
All Rockwell Automation Ethernet physical media undergo stringent mechanical and electrical testing, and comply with Open DeviceNet Vendors Association (ODVA) standards.
Rated up to IP67, the RJ45 Ethernet cordsets and patchcords are available in robotic TPE, riser PVC and plenum cable jacket versions. M12 cordsets come in robotic TPE configuration.

Columbus Equipment Company unveils new Komatsu Hybrid Excavator
Columbus Equipment Company and Komatsu America Corp. announces the introduction of the Hybrid PC200LC-8 excavator into the North American market. With the new Hybrid PC200LC-8, Komatsu has raised the industry bar for hybrid technology and fuel savings, by delivering a machine with power and efficiency, while reducing environmental impact as compared to our standard model.
As a one of the world’s top construction equipment manufacturers, Komatsu’s goal is to meet increasing global environmental concerns through the development of innovative equipment designed to reduce environmental impact, including CO2 reduction. By developing a successful hybrid excavator in the largest construction machine segment (20-22 ton), Komatsu’s green technology will have a substantial impact on saving fuel and reducing green house emissions.
Powered by the Komatsu Hybrid System, the Hybrid PC200LC-8 uses a newly developed electric swing motor, power generator motor, capacitor and diesel engine. Komatsu developed its revolutionary hybrid system to work on the principle of swing energy regeneration and energy storage using the Komatsu Ultra Capacitor system. Komatsu’s Ultra Capacitors provide fast energy storage and instantaneous power transmission.
The kinetic energy generated during the swing braking phase is converted to electricity which is sent through an inverter and then captured by the Ultra Capacitor. This captured energy is then discharged very quickly for upper structure rotation and to assist the engine as commanded by the hybrid controller when accelerating under work load conditions.
In tests comparing the standard PC200LC-8 hydraulic excavator to the Hybrid PC200LC-8, the hybrid model reduced fuel consumption by approximately 25-40%, depending on the application.
The new Hybrid Excavator will be working in and around the greater Cincinnati area for the next several months.
